CAGD 495 Week 2 - Christopher Coombs

Hello again, everyone! This is Christopher Coombs, and I have quite a few updates regarding my team's progress in our initial weeks of pre-production for the big Super Bowl commercial. Firstly, due to copyright reasons, our group needed to ditch the old Gorilla Glue name. As of right now, we've rebranded and are now calling our product Ape Adhesive. We are unsure if this will be a temporary placeholder name or our permanent title, but I do like it. As for a follow-up on the end of last week, Luis and I finished building the shotlist for our storyboard artists, Gavin, Brooke, and Tyler. They managed to blast through their assigned tasks in less than two days. Not only that, but the storyboard panels look really good, too. I'm very proud of their work and feel quite lucky to be leading such a productive team. Following this on Tuesday, I compiled these shots into a short animatic for our Wednesday presentation. Of course, as ambitious as we were, we've just barely exceeded our time limit by around two seconds. Even if we were able to get it to a solid thirty seconds, we would be strapped for time during the shooting of every scene, and the pacing of the shots would have to go by very fast. To remedy this, we've decided to make major cuts to our storyline, removing three total scenes from the story. We merged some of these ideas together, such as the criminal taking the jewelry box, and when he went to the fridge to get a slice of pizza. Now he has a single isolated target, which is a golden pizza in a jewelry box. Additionally, we decided that the burglar should get stuck when trying to take the treasure rather than having an additional scene where he gets stuck attempting to leave through the front door. Luis and I revised the shotlist on Wednesday afternoon and assigned our storyboard artists to replace panels 6-10. As for our environment, Gavin, our layout artist, found an awesome house for us to use for shooting the exterior and interior shots. We'll probably change the wallpaper color and add a few new props.

Brooke was already on it and started modeling a chest for our treasure. It was then passed over to Gavin for texturing. This is the final result, and I think it turned out pretty good. Of course, we made sure it was openable so that we could put the treasure inside.

That's all for now, and I'll keep you posted on our progress for next week!
